Two Hours’ Traffic

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Touring Company, comprised of six professional actors, will be touring A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth in the 2016-2017 school year. These productions clock in under two hours, and the Touring Company can perform in almost any space (approximately 15′ x 20′), including gyms, theaters, and libraries. The show concludes with a question-and-answer session to allow the students to talk with the actors and gain new insight into the play.

One of the most beloved romantic tragedies in Shakespeare’s canon, Romeo and Juliet is the tale of Bard’s star-crossed lovers. Romeo and Juliet fall instantly in love only to discover they come from feuding families. In defiance of their families, amidst the animosity of friends and in concealment from their mentors, a young couple risk everything to be together. CSC is proud to present Romeo and Juliet and prove its continued relevance in the lives of young and old alike, throughout the ages.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

What happens when feuding fairies meddle in the love lives of human couples? Comical adventures, mistaken identities, and a silly play-within-a-play! The cast of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is on tour including fairies and lovers as well as Nick Bottom and The Mechanicals as they hilariously attempt to rehearse and perform a play for the Duke’s wedding. In this whimsical forest, a happy ending is guaranteed for both sprites and mortals alike.
Recommended Audience: 5th grade and up (see below for K-5 Midsummer option)

Prophecies. Ambition. Murder. Madness. In Shakespeare’s famous cursed play Macbeth, we see the darkness of the world overcome the light. After an encounter with three witches on a Scottish battlefield, Macbeth must make a decision that will change the course of his life.  Betrayal, love, bloodshed and tragedy adorn the path in this chilling, supernatural tale, leaving us wondering how far Macbeth will go to get what he wants. Tormented by visions and guilt when the price of his crimes take their toll, what fate awaits Macbeth? Find out in Shakespeare’s supernatural thriller.
Appropriate for 7th grade and up.

Why Shakespeare?

In this 45-minute interactive showcase, three professional actors from the CSC Touring Company answer a common question: “Why do we still study Shakespeare today?” Interesting facts about Shakespeare, audience participation, Shakespearian insults, scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Comedy of Errors, Henry V and more are part of this comedic presentation. Appropriate for all ages.

Midsummer for Young Audiences- For Elementary Students!

This 45 minute interactive touring show takes your students through the magical world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with three professional CSC actors. With a mix of Shakespeare’s poetry and modern language, it’s got fairies, wacky Athenians, puppets, and all your favorite moments from Shakespeare’s classic tale. There are even opportunities for your students can be a part of the action!

Shakespearience Workshops

An in-depth teaching tool brings one to six Cincinnati Shakespeare Company professional actors into your classroom to perform and discuss scenes from any Shakespeare play. Each program is tailored to the needs of your class. Appropriate for fourth grade and up.  Some ideas from past topics include:
