Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access

We will create an inclusive space for all races, all ethnicities, all genders, all identities, all orientations, all abilities, all creeds, and all ages; where artists and audiences of all backgrounds see themselves and their stories represented.

We will create an equitable space, in which all employees feel safe, respected, and valued; and where voices that have been historically silenced are amplified.

We will create an accessible space, where the experience of live theatre is reachable for all, regardless of socio-economic class, educational background, or ability.

We will create a diverse space in the types of plays we produce, in the races and experiences of our creative teams, and in the makeup of the audiences who attend our productions.

We will make Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access integral to our mission as a nonprofit organization, to our identity as a company, and to our future as a business.

In 2020, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company participated in a conference presented by Theatre Communications Group (TCG). At this conference, the Producing Artistic Director pledged the following commitments:

The Four Commitments of Cincinnati Shakespeare Company's Producing Artistic Director

1. CSC will compose and share externally an Anti-Racist statement to go along with our EDI Statement and will require the entire staff and board to sign off on that statement. The statement will be read by the company at the start of every rehearsal process along with our pre-existing anti-harassment policy.
2. CSC will commit to Anti-Racist training for the entire staff on an ongoing basis.
3. CSC will commit to quarterly Anti-Racist evaluations conducted by our Board-run EDI committee.
4. CSC commits to quarterly town hall conversations run and benefiting the entire BIPOC theatre community in Cincinnati.
