About the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company

The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) is a resident ensemble theatre company bringing Shakespeare and the Classics to life for all. Operating out of The Otto M. Budig Theater, CSC hosts a year-round theatrical season in addition to special events, educational programming, and community engagements. In its theatrical portfolio, CSC executes up to 9 mainstage productions and 4 touring productions annually.

Position Overview

The Front of House & Operations Associate will collaborate closely with the Front of House & Operations Manager in overseeing operations and maintenance of CSC facilities. They coordinate multiple vendors that supply services such as janitorial, plumbing, electric, HVAC, etc. On a regular basis, they walk the facility, inside and outside, to ensure that all things are in good, working order.

The Front of House & Operations Associate is a part of the front of house staff for public performances and special events. This includes house managing, supporting special events and opening nights, staffing concessions, servicing educational matinees, providing customer service in the box office, and other duties that are essential to CSC’s public engagements.

Front of House & Operations Associate is a full-time position with an average of 40 working hours per week. This role is regularly required to work evening and weekend hours. Most work takes place inside of the Otto M. Budig Theater. Some support from this position is also needed at other locations such as an offsite warehouse or company-managed housing. (Note: CSC will be letting go of its company-managed housing effective July 1, 2022. The Front of House & Operations Associate will oversee the move out of currently occupied housing; after which this aspect of their job duties will be dissolved.)


An ideal candidate:

  • has some knowledge of facilities maintenance,
  • is comfortable working in a customer service environment,
  • has a personal mode of transportation and a valid drivers license,
  • is proficient in Microsoft Office, email management, and verbal communication, and
  • is able to bend, stoop, lift 25 pounds, climb ladders, go up and down stairs, and work at heights.


Operations & Facilities – 50%

  • Maintain a clean environment within the physical plant and the surrounding outside areas; this includes supervising the performance of janitorial service providers as well as general housekeeping as needed.
  • Coordinate facility, repairs, preventative maintenance, and improvements. Preventative maintenance includes HVAC inspections, cleaning of theatre upholstery and carpets, deep cleaning of facility, etc.
  • Contract, schedule, and steward vendor relationships including cleaning services, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, pest control, laundry facilities, elevators, etc.
  • Execute light and maintenance-level janitorial responsibilities, trash management, and minor repair or improvement work.
  • Manage exterior areas of CSC property, including mulching, trash pick-up, mowing, snow removal, salting, tree trimming, etc.
  • Participate in walk-throughs with fire department or other inspectors and follow-up on issues and solutions.
  • Oversee security including cameras, alarm systems, and serve as first response for triggered alarms.
  • Issue metal keys and key cards or fobs to employees as required for their job.
  • Coordinate dumpster rentals as required to support production and operations activities at the theater.
  • Serve as fleet manager for company owned vehicles, which includes coordinating repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
  • Support special events including third party rentals, opening nights, corporate events, internal engagements, fundraisers, and an annual gala. This entails setting up rooms (including tables and chairs), putting out event linens, setting up event lighting, assisting vendors, and providing necessary AV support.
  • Restore rooms after events and rentals including removing trash, striking any furnishings or AV equipment used, providing any necessary maintenance-level janitorial, and laundering CSC-owned linens.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development and other team members to improve overall aesthetics and delivery of rental and special events.

Front of House – 40%

  • House Manage public performances 2-3 times per week as scheduled on evenings and weekends.
  • Assist in day-to-day box office duties such as answering phone calls, selling tickets, processing mail, providing customer service, and executing other administrative support tasks.
  • Support educational matinees as scheduled by house managing, assisting in theater cleaning before and after performances, and collaborating with the Director of Education and other staff to seat students.
  • Provide support in any Front of House role as needed in the event of staffing shortage. This may include bar tending, box office support, or house managing.
  • Execute weekly bar and concession inventory and order stock as needed.
  • Clean bar and concession stand weekly and perform regular bar maintenance.

General Duties – 10%

  • Maintain and submit timecard bi-weekly.
  • Attend training as scheduled, including mandatory DEIA training quarterly.
  • Submit expense report monthly.
  • Abide by Company Policies, including all health and safety protocols.
  • Other duties as requested.

Sample Work Schedules

The work schedule of the Front of House & Operations Associate fluctuates to accommodate opening weeks, special events, and other programming. However, sample schedules for the majority of workweeks are modeled below.

When a performance is onstage at The Otto M. Budig Theater, the Front of House & Operations Associate may expect to work a schedule similar to the following:

Monday: Off

Tuesday: Off

Wednesday: 11:30am – 5:30pm

Thursday: 11:30am – 8:00pm

Friday: 11:30am – 10:30pm

Saturday: 11:30am – 10:30pm

Sunday: 11:30am – 5:30pm

When there is not a performance open at The Otto M. Budig Theater, the Front of House & Operations Associate may expect to work a schedule similar to the following:

Monday: 10:00am – 6:00pm

Tuesday: 10:00am – 6:00pm

Wednesday: 10:00am – 6:00pm

Thursday: 10:00am – 6:00pm

Friday: 10:00am – 6:00pm

Saturday: Off

Sunday: Off

This is a full time, non-exempt, hourly position compensated at $15.00 per hour. Should overtime hours be accrued, they are paid at a rate of $22.50 per hour. In addition to their earnings, the Front of House & Operations Associate receives:
