Annual Report 2324 Graphic

June 30, 2024

Supporters and Friends,

As we celebrate the conclusion of our 30th Anniversary Season, I want to express my deepest gratitude to you for your support of Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Your contribution was instrumental as we relentlessly pursue excellence in bringing Shakespeare and the Classics to life for this community.

On our Mainstage, your donations allowed us to champion emerging voices, create fresh interpretations of classic plays, and advance our strategic commitment to cultural diversity and artistic innovation on our stage. Whether we were celebrating our off-Broadway debut by bringing back the cast of last season’s The Rewards of Being Frank to produce Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest; creating immersive sound and projection designs for Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Julius Caesar; producing the world-premiere of Wrecking Ball (a play commissioned right here at CSC) by Cincinnati native Zina Camblin; honoring the legacy of James Baldwin with a captivating production of The Amen Corner; or making a play “go wrong” in all the right ways for The Play That Goes Wrong, this season has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Beyond the Mainstage, we found new ways to expand access, embrace and celebrate diverse voices, and enrich our community’s cultural landscape. We provided quality educational experiences to thousands students of all ages, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and empathy through the power of Shakespeare and the Classics. Our FREE Shakespeare in the Park Tour brought the magic of Shakespeare to neighborhoods across the city, breaking down barriers and making classical theatre accessible to all. Our YP Preview Night, provided a platform for young professionals to connect, network, and enrich their theatergoing experience. And, just in time for Cincinnati Pride, our 2nd annual ShakesQUEER event--a Shakespeare-inspired drag show—was a beacon of diversity, inclusion, and the power of self-expression.

Your continued support is what makes all of this possible and we are filled with gratitude for your continued belief in our mission. Together, we have elevated new stories, sparked vital conversations, nurtured the next generation of theatre lovers, and built a stronger, more vibrant community through the transformative power of theatre.

Thank you for being an invaluable part of our journey over the last 30 years. Here’s to the next 30 and beyond!

See you at the theater,

Brian Isaac Phillips

To our Donors and Patrons,

Over the last three decades, your generosity has been the cornerstone of our operations, providing the vital financial support necessary to sustain our artistic efforts and continue offering exceptional theatrical experiences to our community.

Once again, our conservative budgeting, commitment to cash reserves, and the steadfast leadership of our staff and Board exemplify our dedication to fiscal responsibility and to the proper stewardship of your donations. We take immense pride in ensuring the resilience of our organization, even in the face of adversity. Your philanthropic support has enabled us to navigate the ongoing challenges, adapt to evolving demands, and rebuild our programs, securing the longevity and vitality of this organization.

Although we may feel as though we are in the midst of a volatile and uncertain world, I am filled with optimism for the future. The unwavering commitment of our patrons and donors has demonstrated the resilience and enduring spirit of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Together, we have shown that even in the most trying times, the power of the arts and the transformative nature of live performance remain steadfast.

As we close our 30th Anniversary Season and look forward to the next, we are dedicated to honoring your trust in our ability to bring Shakespeare and the Classics to life for all. With your continued support, we will forge ahead, delivering exceptional theatrical experiences, nurturing new voices, and strengthening the cultural fabric of our community.
