At REVEL, we honor an individual without whom Cincinnati Shakespeare Company would not exist with the annual Globe Award. Previous honorees include Calvin and Patricia Linnemann, Otto M. Budig, Jr., Elizabeth “Lib” Stone, Vicky Reynolds, Jeanne Golliher, D. Lynn Meyers, and Bill McKim. This year, we are proud to honor a true philanthropist, a civic-minded heart, and a dear friend: Richard Westheimer.

When the CSC Board and Staff considered people who have made an extraordinary impact on Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Dick Westheimer was an indisputable choice for this year’s honoree. A dedicated patron and donor since 1998 (including nearly two decades of Board service and two terms as Board President), Dick has helped guide CSC from a small, start-up theater, through the Great Recession, into the $17.5MM Capital Campaign for a new space, through the 579-day closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, and towards a successful reopening in October 2021.

Dick is a dedicated public servant, having taught in Madisonville as an elementary teacher for CPS for 16 years. He has also previously served on the Boards of Planned Parenthood of SW Ohio, MORTAR Cincinnati, the Taft Museum, and the Urban Appalachian Council. Dick is an accomplished poet with recent poems appearing in Rattle, Whale Road Review, Minyan, Gyroscope Review, The Patterson Review, OneART, The Banyan Review, Ritual Well, and Cutthroat. In addition he is a 2021 Rattle Poetry Prize finalist and been an interviewee on the prestigious Rattlecast. His debut chapbook, A Sword in Both Hands, Poems Responding to Russia’s War on Ukraine, is published by Sheila Na Gig Books. In the company of his wife, Debbie, he has lived for 47 years, gardened, and raised five children on their plot of land in Clermont County, east of Cincinnati.
