Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is excited to introduce the new CSC Spotlight Series of drop-in classes for adults.

These hands-on, engaging classes cover everything from acting and theatre fundamentals to Shakespeare and text analysis. Each session is designed to inspire creativity, develop skills, and provide a fun, flexible learning experience that fits your schedule.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Summer Camp

For over 20 years, Cincinnati Shakespeare’s Theatre Summer Camp has provided students with a camp experience unlike any in the Tri-State. Campers work with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company teaching artists, staging scenes, learning the tricks of the trade, gaining confidence, and often finding an inclusive community of friends that lasts well beyond the summer.

Whether you’ve never stepped on a stage before, or have already been bitten by the acting bug and are looking for a challenge, our camps are the perfect place to learn and improve new skills, make new friends, and have a whole lot of fun!

LEARN ABOUT THE 2026 HIGH SCHOOL WEEKS BELOW (GRADES 9-12):

June 1–12, 2026: High School Performance Camp – A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Step into the world of Shakespeare with a two-week intensive focused on performance and collaboration! Directed by Jeremy Dubin, students will rehearse and perform an abridged production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, culminating in a final Friday performance for family and friends.

Campers may choose between two tracks with limited spots:

  • Performance Track: Auditions are required. Students will be cast prior to camp and perform in their assigned roles. Audition tapes are due by April 1, but do not need to be submitted with registration. Secure your spot first, then submit your audition.

  • Stage Management Track (Limited Spots): Students assist backstage, support rehearsals, manage technical elements, and help bring the production to life behind the scenes.

This intensive experience combines rehearsal with acting, movement, and ensemble-building classes, giving students a hands-on, immersive introduction to Shakespeare and the craft of theatre. Spaces are extremely limited! Register early to secure your spot!

June 15-19, 2026: Shakespeare’s Rom-Coms

From bold confessions and hilarious misunderstandings to classic Shakespearean chaos, this camp dives into the funniest and most heartfelt moments of Shakespeare’s romantic comedies. Each day combines ensemble-building, acting, movement, and Shakespeare text work as students explore scenes from plays like Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, and As You Like It. Campers will sharpen their skills in language, timing, and character relationships while rehearsing toward a polished Friday showcase filled with wit, romance, and comedic twists.

June 22-26, 2026: Shakespearean Storytelling

This week centers on the power of storytelling through speech, movement, and space. In daily Acting, Movement, and Shakespeare Text classes, students will explore how to make strong, clear choices with their bodies and voices to bring Shakespeare’s stories to life. Campers will practice speaking with confidence, creating stage pictures, and working together to shape meaningful scenes. The week culminates in a Friday showcase, where students will share the scenes and storytelling pieces they have built throughout the week.

LEARN ABOUT THE 2026 MIDDLE SCHOOL WEEKS BELOW (GRADES 5-8):

July 6-10, 2026: Crafting Shakespeare’s World

Step inside Shakespeare’s worlds as students explore how setting, mood, and imagination shape a story. Through acting, movement, and Shakespeare classes, paired with hands-on creative activities, campers will craft enchanted forests, stormy castles, and magical islands inspired by plays like A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, and The Tempest. Each day includes ensemble-building and rehearsal, culminating in a collaborative Friday showcase that brings their worlds to life on stage.

July 13-17, 2026: Shakespeare’s Greatest Adventures

Join Shakespeare’s most daring characters on thrilling journeys filled with magic, mischief, and bold choices. This high-energy week blends acting, movement, and text work as students explore exciting scenes from Shakespeare’s most adventurous plays. With their Directors, Campers will prepare an adventurous Friday showcase that highlights their teamwork, imagination, and growth as performers.

LEARN ABOUT THE 2026 ELEMENTARY WEEKS BELOW (GRADES 1-4):

Elementary Camp runs 9:00 AM–5:00 PM daily. However, Campers who need a shorter day may opt to only attend during core camp hours, 10:30 AM–3:30 PM. Most of the day’s main activities happen during core hours, while morning and afternoon time focuses on theatre games and creative play.

July 20-24, 2026: Shakespeare’s Wild World

Dive into Shakespeare’s stories filled with animals, magical transformations, and playful chaos! Campers will bring to life the humor and imagination of Shakespeare’s creatures through acting, movement, story exploration, and hands-on crafts. Each day includes ensemble games and creative activities, with rehearsals leading to a lively Friday showcase full of the week’s favorite animal-inspired scenes and performances.

July 27-31, 2026: Songs, Stories, & Shakespeare
Campers will explore the music, rhythm, and storytelling of Shakespeare’s plays in this lively collaborative week! Through acting, movement, and creative play, students will experiment with simple text, songs, and expressive storytelling to bring scenes to life. Each day includes ensemble-building games, hands-on activities, and rehearsal time, culminating in a Friday showcase where campers share the songs, stories, and scenes they’ve created with their peers.

Adult Classes meet on these Thursdays 6:00 PM-7:00 PM

All CSC Spotlight Adult Workshops are drop-in, low-pressure, and open to everyone. Performance is optional, making them perfect for all Shakespeare and theatre enthusiasts, literature lovers, artists, and lifelong learners.

March 26, 2026 - Finding Your Voice Through Shakespeare
Using Shakespeare’s text as a tool, this class focuses on speaking with clarity, confidence, and intention. Participants will explore breath, articulation, and vocal presence through guided exercises and short excerpts. Designed for personal growth as much as performance exploration.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

April 2, 2026 – Shakespeare in Bloom
This discussion-based workshop explores how Shakespeare uses nature, seasons, and transformation as powerful storytelling tools. Participants will examine imagery and themes from select texts, with optional opportunities to read aloud and connect language to meaning. A thoughtful, seasonal entry point into Shakespeare’s world.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

April 9, 2026 – Performing Shakespeare’s Comedies
This activity-based workshop embraces the joy and mischief of Shakespearean comedy. Through light movement, improvisation, and text exploration, participants will experiment with timing, status shifts, and bold choices. A fun, energetic class full of performance and movement opportunities.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

April 16, 2026 – Mainstage Spotlight: An Introduction to Pericles
Led by a guest artist with 40+ years of experience teaching Shakespeare, this discussion-based workshop offers a deeper exploration of the text. Participants will engage in close reading, analysis, and guided conversation, gaining new tools for understanding Shakespeare’s language, structure, and themes in Pericles.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

April 23, 2026 – Mainstage Spotlight: Designing Pericles
Inspired by our extraterrestrial production of Pericles, this workshop explores how visual and artistic elements shape storytelling. Participants will engage with the world of the play through discussion, considering how design, imagery, and concept bring Shakespeare's play to life on stage.
No experience required. Performing is optional. 

April 30, 2026 – Create Your Classic: A Mini PROJECT38 Experience
This interactive workshop invites participants to choose their own creative path to explore a Shakespeare play through a short performance piece and text analysis. Designed after PROJECT38, our flagship educational program, this class celebrates creativity, choice, and personal expression. Resources and materials provided.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

May 7, 2026 – Intro to Improvisation
This fun, low-pressure workshop introduces the basics of improvisation through theatre games and guided exercises. Participants will practice listening, thinking on their feet, and building ideas collaboratively in a supportive environment. Perfect for boosting confidence, creativity, and communication skills.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

May 14, 2026 – Women in Shakespeare
This discussion-based workshop explores how women are written in Shakespeare’s plays and his most iconic women. Participants will examine language, relationships, and historical context to better understand how these characters function within their worlds, and how they resonate today. Through guided conversation and optional reading aloud, this class offers a thoughtful and engaging look at gender, voice, and representation in Shakespeare.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

May 21, 2026 – Mainstage Spotlight: Emma
This discussion-based workshop explores the mainstage production, Emma. Participants will examine Austen’s use of language, social structure, and character dynamics, considering how wit, irony, and perspective shape the story. Through guided discussion and optional reading aloud, this class offers insight into how Emma functions both as a novel and as a theatrical adaptation, highlighting why Austen’s work continues to resonate today.
No experience required. Performing is optional.

May 28, 2026 – Mainstage Spotlight: Much Ado in the Park!
This lively, end-of-season workshop builds excitement for CSC’s upcoming Park Tour production of Much Ado About Nothing. Participants will explore the play’s wit, romance, and playful language through discussion and light performance activities. A perfect way to kick off summer, this class encourages laughter, connection, and storytelling.
