Mrs. Dalloway hosts tonight! You’re invited to the soiree of the century: a new musical adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s classic novel. It is 1923 and the pandemic and WWI have ravaged Europe, but Clarissa Dalloway is determined to throw the greatest party London has ever seen. While she buys the flowers and makes last minute preparations, serendipitous reunions force her to confront the past. As she dismantles the façade she tirelessly upholds, she rekindles connections with friends and lovers, awakening her inner desires for the words she never spoke and the paths of love she never took. Don't miss this iconic novel reimagined for the stage as a musical romance that features golden-age Broadway–inspired music with a folk-pop feel.

Meet the playwright, composer, and lyricist behind Mrs. Dalloway: A New Musical!
Lindsey Augusta Mercer (they/them) is a multi-hyphenate theatre artist passionate about queer, interdisciplinary, and reimagined works. Having worked primarily as a director, actor, and musician, Mrs. Dalloway marks their debut as a composer and librettist. Creating this piecehas been the most gorgeous, harrowing, and gratifying challenge of their life, and they could not be more grateful for the faith and support from Brian, Sara, and the CSC family. Making this musical together has been a dream come true.

In 2020, Cincy Shakes commissioned Lindsey to develop a new musical based on a classic text. After exploring various Shakespearean and other classical works, they were captivated by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, drawn to its lyrical world and convinced it was ideal for musical adaptation. Cincy Shakes hosted workshops with Lindsey in 2022 and 2023 to support the project’s development, and now the piece is set to premiere on the mainstage in 2025! Get your tickets now.
